This 2 1/2 hour evening workshop offers a unique opportunity for beginners and those curious to gain an understanding of the workings and the effects of the Alexander Technique.

A detailed explanation of its theoretical background, its history and its working principles, together with individual experiential Hands-On guidance, provide an insight into the depth and scope of the Alexander Technique in its application in everyday life.

The Alexander Technique is generally learnt in a series of individual private lessons. Anyone completing the Teacher Training Course knows how profound a continuous learning of the Technique can be, bringing about a deep and fundamental improvement in the quality and performance of all areas of life.

This intensive weekend sets that deep change into motion, offering an insight into the richness embodied in the Alexander Technique, and one’s potential for personal growth and development.

Open for beginners, for those wishing to deepen their understanding of the Technique and their own personal ‘use’, for those considering applying for the Teacher Training Course and for young teachers.

HOW EARLY CHILDHOOD MOVEMENT LEARNING SHAPES OUR POSTURE

In this seminar “How Early Childhood Movement Learning Shapes Our Posture.” We will dive into the fascinating world of early childhood movement learning – from the first impulses during pregnancy, through the formative birth experience and the first year of life, to the unconscious habits that today influence our self-image and posture.

Early childhood reflexes enable our very first movement experiences and play a crucial role in the maturation and networking of our nervous system. During the first year of life, these reflexes should gradually integrate with one another. However, traces often remain that can hinder us as adults in our posture and use of ourself:
Some clients, despite regular Alexander Technique lessons, report difficulties in finding a relaxed upright posture or in coming to a sense of inner calm. These seemingly “normal” habits often turn out to be active remnants of early childhood reflexes.

Together we will explore how the Bewegungsevolution® method can gently calm and integrate existing reflexes, enabling the classical Alexander Technique to have an even more sustainable effect.

You will receive:
• A theoretical overview of the most important early childhood reflexes and their influence on our movement development
• Explanations of why reflexes cannot be consciously suppressed, but must be lovingly integrated into our system
• Insights on how to possibly recognize a non-integrated reflex

“I am a certified Alexander Technique teacher, working since 2007 following my training with Dan Armon. As a dancer and dance educator, I have always been fascinated by the connection between movement and awareness. Since 2022, I have been working as a certified trainer and process facilitator in Movement Evolution® with babies, children, and adults.
In addition, I assist in the Movement Evolution® training classes led by Martina Kunstwald in Bremen.”

TRAUMA WORK AND ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE

with SUSANNE MIDDENDORF

Beside medical-psychological definitions, the term trauma stands for devastating life experience, which we can only live through or process partially.

These experiences remain in our psychophysical memory as stressful memories and manifest themselves situationally as tension, symptoms or uncontrolled reaction patterns.

In extreme cases, they overwrite our functional behavior with inhibitory, altering or contraindicated behavioral programs that interfere with the way we want to live our lives.

AS AN INTEGRATIVE METHOD, which directs our attention to overcoming dysfunctional reaction patterns in human behavior, the Alexander Technique has valuable and profound tools to offer.

On the other hand, the Alexander Technique does not consider itself a healing method and is subject to professional and legal limitations.

These difficulties push the topic of dealing with trauma in the context of the AT into a shadowy area that unsettles both clients and teachers.

In the framework of “INTERESTING TALKS”, I would like to invite teachers as well as trainees and clients to an open exchange.

The Alexander Technique, aspects of trauma research and our personal history form the field of reference in which we can present our perspectives, articulate our needs and design paths that above all follow the singular purpose intended by the AT: to promote people’s self-control in a holistic way.
